Self Guided Fishing
You dont always have to pay to go fishing
in Alaska. There are ample opportunities for fishing on your own from
riverbanks and in fishing holes in the area.
Here is a summary of the major opportunities.
You can inquire locally about techniques and tackle. Always check the fishing
regulations for bait, date, location, and tackle restrictions. These are
guidelines only.
Ninilchik River, from riverbank within
walking distance from our park -
- King salmon: Weekends (defined as
midnight Friday night to midnight Monday night) on Memorial Day Weekend and
next two weekends.
- Silver salmon: opens August 1st
Deep Creek, about ¾ mile from our
park, from riverbank -
- King salmon: Weekends (defined as
midnight Friday night to midnight Monday night) on Memorial Day Weekend and
next two weekends
- Silver salmon: opens August 1st
Kasilof River, Crooked Creek area, state
recreation areas, about 18 miles north of our park -
- King salmon: from late May to early
July, best in mid June
- Red salmon: late June
Kenai River, several locations, about 35
miles north of our park -
- King salmon: first run in June
- Red salmon: (small run) generally third
week in June
- King salmon: (the BIG ones) in July,
ends July 31st
- Red salmon: (large run) generally third
week in July
- Silver salmon: starts August 3rd
Anchor River, about 13 miles south of our
park
- King salmon: Weekends (defined as
midnight Friday night to midnight Monday night) on Memorial Day Weekend and
next three weekends
- Silver salmon: opens August 1st
